Perfekte Pedesclaux…

94/100 James Suckling
“Dark cherries, black currants, white pepper and graphite with a touch of dark chocolate and cigar box. I love the suppleness and the mid-palate fruit that give excellent width and flesh to this rather lean vintage. Medium to full body with more flesh than bones. The tannins are fine and sleek, and the finish, creamy and extensive. A commendable effort from this vintage. Shows lots of early appeal but will hold very well in the next five to seven years”

”Brilliant in its clear and captivating sensory profile, it displays notes of geraniums, lychee, mixed red flowers and cherries. Medium-bodied, fine-grained tannins and a finish of great territorial respect and modern stylistic character. A blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 27% Merlot, 6% Cabernet Franc and 3% Petit Verdot. Best since 2025.

“Deep colour. Chinotto, bitter dark chocolate, blackcurrant aromas. Rich chocolaty with black-berry blackcurrant fruits, fine velvety textures, bittersweet flavours and a lovely chewy long finish. Very good density and mineral length. 64 % Cabernet Sauvignon, 27 % Merlot, 3 % Petit Verdot, 6 % Cabernet Franc. Matured in 60 % new French oak barriques

“Deep purple colour with violet hue and almost black core. Expressive nose with fine toasting, hints of dark chocolate, ripe plums and hints of dark berries, vanilla and mild spices. On the palate well structured, very elegant with convincing length, juicy fruit and discreet spiciness.”

“Gorgeous dark pinky purple rim to the glass. Beautifully expressive aromas, red and pink flowers - peonies, rose and violets and intense, chocolatey cola blackcurrant, just the best combination. Concentration and lift on the palate, this is darker and more seductive than the second wine, the perfume and the richness of the fruits with the dark liquorice tones draws you in and plays alongside the bright, light acidity. So you have focus and intensity as well as freshness and approachability. The two are not totally combined yet but such lovely elements going on and such precision on show. This has tension and a balance between refinement and power really led by the Cabernet Sauvignon. The bright cherry hit on the finish lingers too. A lovely set of wines this year - worth seeking out! 3% Petit Verdot completes the blend. 3.71pH. Ageing 60% new oak. 58% grand vin. A yield of 29hL/ha. In official organic conversion since 2019.”

“The 2021 Pédesclaux has retained its marine/estuarine scented bouquet that is well-deined and focused: blackberry, cedar, and graphite scents, not amazingly complex but fresh, with no signs of greenness. The palate is medium-bodied with sapid black fruit, a little softer than some of its peers – quite a “fluid” Pauillac with an easygoing, lightly spiced finish. It should drink well for up to 20 years.
91/100 Falstaff
” Vivid dark ruby red with opaque core, narrow rim with purple hue. Elegant black berries, a little chocolate, fine noble wood savouriness, nuances of cassis, clove and a touch of hibiscus. Medium-bodied, red berry fruit, fine, ripe tannins, salty finish with subtle fruit sweetness on the back palate; a very fresh but balanced food companion.”

"This is very chewy with dusty tannins and blackberry and blueberry character. Some chocolate, too. Full and layered. Such beautiful violet and black-cherry quality at the end with some raspberries, 56% cabernet sauvignon. 34% merlot, 5% cabernet franc and 5% petit verdot. First year with organic farming. A nice step-up in quality."

"Tense and coiled, lovely styling here with bright and vibrant black fruits, a soft hit of creaminess alongside liquorice-laced tannins. Power and brawn, clearly structured and intense, this will age very well just a bit shy and tight right now. Dark chocolate, menthol freshness, plum and rosemary. Excellent tannic grip and I love the sweetness on the palate as well as overall freshness. Something very captivating about this and upscored from a tasting in September."

"The 2020 Château Pédesclaux reminds me of the 2016 with its concentrated, pure, classic Pauillac style. A blend of 56% Cabernet Sauvignon, 34% Merlot, and the balance Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot, it has a great nose of pure blue fruits (currants, cassis) as well as ample lead pencil, chalky minerality, and violet aromas and flavors. Medium to full-bodied, beautifully balanced, and elegant on the palate, it has the purity and polish to shine even today, yet my money is on it benefiting from 4-6 years of bottle age, and it should evolve gradually over the following 15+ years.."
94/100 Markus Del Monego MW
“Dark purple colour with violet hue and black core. Excellent nose with ripe fruit, plums, black cherries, blackcurrants and mulberries. On the palate very elegant with great freshness and persistence, silky tannins of great precision, juicy fresh fruit and fine mild spices. A wonderful and refined wine.”
94/100 Vert de Vin
“On the nose, fresh, elegant, dynamic and offers intensity, power and a nice finesse of the grain. It reveals notes of ripe wild cassis, small pulpy black fruits and slightly crushed redcurrant associated with hints of morello cherry, graphite, iodine/earthy minerality, flowers a hint of lilac as well as hints of spices, nutmeg, cinnamon and a very discreet hint of vanilla bean. On the palate fruity and offers minerality, juiciness, roundness, a certain gourmandize as well as an acidulous frame, a little tension, a nice definition as well as a good purity of the fruit, a bright fruit, a certain fullness and contained richness. The palate is discreetly tightening up. The wine expresses notes of bright blackberry, morello cherry and lighter pulpy raspberry combined with hints of raspberry, bright plum, star anise, cardamom as well as fine points of sweet spice, toast, racy minerality and a discreet hint of toasted hazelnut. Nice potential for the future. One of the best if not the best Pedesclaux I have tasted in primeur.”

“A very fine Pesdesclaux”
92-94+/100 Robert Parker
"Deep purple-black colored, the 2020 Pedesclaux charges out of the gate with energetic notes of crushed blackberries, black raspberries and ripe blackcurrants, followed by suggestions of menthol, aniseed, violets and cedar chest. The medium-bodied palate quivers with vibrant, crunchy black and red berries layers, framed by firm, ripe tannins and fantastic freshness, finishing long and deliciously savory."
92-94/100 Jeff Leve, The Wine Cellar Insider
“Dark garnet in color, the wine is all about its creme de cassis, flowers, blackberries, cigar wrapper, smoke and green forest leaf aromatics. Vibrant and silky with freshness to the fruits bringing you lift and definition. The wine finishes with a touch of cocoa, tobacco and ripe, sweet, juicy, savory currants that linger. This is clearly an estate on the rise.”
92-94/100 La Figaro
93/100 Falstaff
“Dark ruby garnet, violet reflections, delicate rim lightening. Subtle floral nuances of cassis and heart cherries, delicate tobacco, pleasant spiciness, mineral touch. Medium-bodied, red berry nuances, fresh acidity, fine, integrated tannins, mineral-salty finish, good aging potential, lively style.”
