Meget sigende overgår vinen hos Vert de Vin Magazine den 1000 kr. dyre Château Pontet Canet fra samme topårgang. Her er der virkelig smæk for skillingen!

Med marker, der grænser direkte op ad Mouton- og Lafite Rothschild i det nordlige Pauillac samt med sydlige parceller nær Pichon-Baron og Lynch Bages kan det næppe undre, at Château Grand-Puy Ducasse leverer venstrebredsvin i verdensklasse.

En del af hemmeligheden bag slottets dramatisk stigende kvalitetskurve er superstjernen Hubert de Boüard fra Château Angelus, der siden 2013 har været tilknyttet som ønologisk konsulent. Med 2020 peaker denne Grand Vin på sit hidtil højeste niveau…

“The wine has a deep ruby color. The nose is deep, concentrated, complex and gourmand. It has a rich, generous and ripe fruitiness: we find notes of fresh morello cherry, morello cherry jam, crushed blackcurrant, crème de cassis, crushed raspberry, fresh wood, blueberry jam, as well as a touch of balsamic, peppermint, blackcurrant bud and the subtle, integrated oaky notes (toasted hazelnut, toasted oak, cumin, clove, licorice, crushed vanilla pod and mild coffee). We also find a fine floral bouquet in the background (violet, rose petals, cornflower). The palate is elegant, silky, and at the same time – powerful and firm. The tannin texture is fine, a bit dry on the attack. The flavors are ample, refined and fresh: we find a combination of ripe fruits (blackcurrant, blueberry, morello cherry, crushed raspberry, wild strawberry, red cherry jam, wild blackberry), the gourmandise of chocolate cherry, a refined spiciness (vanilla, cloves, licorice, black pepper, ground nutmeg) and a fine floral bouquet (violet, dried rose, cornflower). The acidity is lively, but supple. The finish is long, sapid and gourmand. A powerful and generous wine, but with great finesse.”

Blackcurrants, tobacco, cedar pencil, and chocolate are just some of its nuances, and this beauty hits the palate with full-bodied richness, a dense, mouth-filling texture, plenty of ripe tannins, and outstanding length. It's not the most elegant Pauillac out there, but it has quintessential aromatics, structure, and density, and is beautifully done, as well as incredibly satisfying. It will probably take a decade of bottle age to hit maturity, and it should have 30-40 years of overall longevity. Tasted three times.”

Pauillac af denne kaliber er en perfekt ledsager til lam, rødt oksekød, fuglevildt, vildtkød og indmad. Serveres ved 16-18°C.

Grand-Puy Ducasse er i årgang 2021 fremstillet på 55 % Cabernet Sauvignon og 45 % Merlot, der høstes fra slottets topmarker i Pauillac. Slottet råder over 40 hektar vinmarker, der indeholder hele 11 forskellige typer jordbund og er således en fremragende repræsentant for det mangfoldige Pauillac-terroir. I kælderen bliver gæringen er fortaget i termostatstyret rustfriståltanke og herefter bliver vinen omstukket til franske egetræsfade, hvor den modner i 18 måneder. Der anvendes mellem 30-50 % ny eg i modningsprocessen.
