"97 points. Exceptional for the vintage.” - James Suckling
"94-96 points. A glorious showing in this vintage, with all the cedar and graphite one associates with La Mondotte – and that fabulously pure black cherry fruit too. This has incredible purity and the fruit is perfectly à point in terms of ripeness ... Superb." - The Drinks Business

“Blueberries, dark chocolate, lavender and sage aromas follow through to a medium body with polished and refined tannins that are integrated but give a sense of strength and muscular tone. Elegance with structure. Closed now, it needs time to soften. Exceptional for the vintage.”
96-97/100 Vert de Vin Magazine
“The nose is fruity, fresh and reveals a nice definition, complexity, finesse, racy power (in finesse), a lot of harmony, a fine tautness. There are notes of morello cherry, fresh red berries and more lightly ripe/crunchy blue berries, ripe blackcurrant combined with fine hints of star anise, sense of place, sweet blond tobacco, a fine touch of vanilla and toasted/fresh oak. The palate is nicely conducted and reveals freshness, juiciness, a nice work on the bitter taste as well as a nice stretched character, energy, a nice purity of fruit, gourmandize, volume, smoothness, a certain silkiness. On the palate, this wine expresses notes of roasted cherry, pulpy/juicy raspberry and, more lightly, small acidic/crisp red fruit, combined with fine hints of violet, blackcurrant, as well as fine hints of star anise, nutmeg, a discreet sapiness, toastiness and chocolate. Good length.”

“A glorious showing in this vintage, with all the cedar and graphite one associates with La Mondotte – and that fabulously pure black cherry fruit too. There’s a lovely smoked back tea component too – Lapsang Souchong alongside the black cherries, blueberry compote and fresh plump raspberries and blackberries too. Finally, there’s just a hint of truffle. Once again, on these great St Emilion terroirs the cool-vintage old-vine Cabernet really triumphs, even at 15%. This has incredible purity and the fruit is perfectly à point in terms of ripeness. I love that. The freshness is locked in here and this is more like a higher altitude expression of St Emilion limestone than a St Emilion from a cooler vintage. Superb.”
95/100 Antonio Galloni
"The 2021 La Mondotte is a dense, potent beauty, with depths of black cherry, plum, gravel, scorched earth, leather, lavender and incense. In 2021, Mondotte is quite savory and brooding, a style with freshness and less opulence than most years. It's also a wine that needs time. I imagine the 2021 will always be a pretty dark Saint-Émilion."
