Couvent de Jacobins er et af blot tre slotte, der ligger inde i selve St-Emilion by. Slottet – eller rettere sagt klosteret - har en historie, der går helt tilbage til de 13. årh., hvor Jacobins-broderskabet slog sig ned og skabte et hjemsted for pilgrimme på flugt. Det er også en af grundende til, at der på etiketten anføres ”mis en bouteille au couvent” i stedet for ”château”, hvilket er ganske enestående.

Godt 700 år senere har Couvent de Jacobins vinstokke på 69 parceller, der er fordelt over 4 plots. Et af dem ligger sågar som nabo til 1. Cru Ausone. Den store spredning af markerne er også med til at give vinene stor kompleksitet, da der er hele 14 forskellige typer jordbund under vinstokkene. Samtidig er deres relativt høje andel af Cabernet Franc et særsyn i St-Emilion, hvilket er med til at skille vinene ud fra mængden med deres skønne krydrede friskhed, der går perfekt i spænd med den runde og saftige Merlot-frugt.

Fra årgang 2020 er vinen certificeret økologisk.

” The nose is elegant, delicate and offers a lovely finesse of grain, depth (finesse), finesse, good definition of fruit. It reveals notes of boysenberry, fresh/juicy strawberry and small notes of blackcurrant associated with touches of cherry blossoms, small pulpy fruits as well as fine hints of sweet spices, toasted notes, vanilla. and a very discreet hint of almond. The palate is fruity, balanced, full of finesse and offers a juicy/mineral structure, finesse, gourmandise, a little airy side in the approach, balance, delicacy, precision, freshness. On the palate this wine expresses notes of juicy/fresh strawberry, fresh blackcurrant and small notes of blackberry associated with touches of small fresh/crunchy red fruits, lily, cherry blossoms, limestone as well as hints of sweet spices, with discreet hints of sense of place (Mediterranean barrier), tonka bean, mocha, fresh/sweet blond tobacco and a very discreet hint of clove.”

While it’s savory and slightly evolved aromatically, I love its purity and freshness on the palate, and my money is on this easily being an outstanding wine once bottled.”
