96 points power-Pomerol blot 800 meter fra Château Petrus!
Château Maillet er en ganske ny vin fra højrebreds prestige-appellation, Pomerol, og første årgang så dagens lys i 2015. På urimeligt kort tid har Châteu Maillet nået et imponerende niveau og ratings har ligget stabilt i midten af 90’erne i alle producerede årgange. Det skyldes ikke mindst det exceptionelle mikro-terroir, der ligger et druekast fra Pomerol-legender som Petus og Le Bon Pasteur.
I kælderen står Hubert de Bouard (kendt fra 1. Cru Classé-slottet Château Angelus) og giver Maillets Pomerol al den kærlighed en vin kunne drømme om. Hubert gør nemlig brug af den særlige og ressourcekrævende ”mikro-vinificering”, hvor vinen udelukkende gæres og modnes på små egetræsbarriques, ovenikøbet 100 % nye i dette tilfælde!
Helt nyt er Château Maillet dog ikke og faktisk har slottet rødder helt tilbage til 1820, hvor Moze Berton-familien slog sig ned i regionen. Igennem 7 generationer har de specialiseret sig i Merlot-druen og har sidenhen udvidet deres besiddelser til St-Emilion, hvor de også laver Grand Cru Classé ved Château Vieux Chantecaille.

Château Maillet er skabt på 95 % Merlot og 5 % Cabernet Franc, der høstes fra slottets 4,5 hektar store terroir, der er opdelt i tre forskellige parceller med en jordbund bestående af grus, ler og sand. Terroiret er i absolut særklasse og godt 800 meter fra slottet finder vi seleveste Château Petrus.
Château Maillets Pomerol opnår sin silkebløde struktur og imponerende integration af fadkrydderi gennem ressourcekrævende mikro-vinificering. Det betyder, at vinen udelukkende er fremstillet på egetræsfade, hvor den gennemgår både alkoholisk og malolaktisk gæring. Som om det ikke var nok, så er fadene, der anvendes, 100% nye. Hubert de Bouard fra Château Angelus er ønologisk konsulent og han modner vinen i 18 måneder før flaskning.
